This past Friday, the varsity football team played against the Highland Owls at Alamo Stadium, with the Huskies winning in incredible fashion 33-22.

The team was mesmerized by the huge stadium and locker room they were playing at, creating an atmosphere the pumped players up for the game versus the Owls.

The first half was a thriller, with both teams putting up points and also providing a close matchup heading into halftime. Seniors John Duhon, Kierian Mccall, Jesse Vara, and Sophomore D’ Qurian Haney all had an impressive first half, each scoring touchdowns.

Kierian McCall had a spectacular catch coming after a Jesse Vara pass for a 14 yard touchdown reception. D’ Qurian Haney with two touchdown runs, both coming in the second quarter, really gave the Huskies up in momentum heading in to halftime.

John Duhon put the finishing touches when he ran for a 28 yard touchdown off of a reverse ending the first half 26-15.

The Huskies defense did a phenomenal job keeping the Owls out of the end zone or even from scoring a single point in the second quarter. They outscored the Highland Owls 19-0 heading into halftime.

The second half was all Husky Defense. From tackles, to interceptions, to fumbles, the defense never let up.

Seniors Joseph Martinez and Deavon Frazier were the Huskies leading tacklers with 6 a piece. Martinez also had a interception while Frazier had a fumble recovery. But the Huskies defense as a whole prevailed and proved to be a leading factor in the Huskies win.

The Huskies had a great showing and proved to many that they can be victorious this season. They took a lot from the loss against Sam Houston two weeks ago, and understood that they had to humble themselves and continue working hard and give maximum effort.

The team looks to continue their path of success when they play the Southwest Dragons at Southwest Stadium at 7:30pm this Friday. Be sure to support your fellow Huskies and always cheer them on this Friday night.
