The second round of the playoffs were tough for the Huskies as they competed against Lake Travis in a competitive series that went down to the very last game. The Husky athletes won the first game in the series 7-2 in hopes of a series sweep; but Lake Travis, out of Austin, TX thought otherwise as they rallied back in game two winning the second game, tying the series. It was all up to game three to see who would advance to the quarterfinal. In the first four innings it was al tied up at 3-3, and seemed as if neither team could get ahead. In the fifth inning, everything changed. The Husky athletes ramped up the scoreboard, scoring five runs and clinching the lead 8-3. The final innings weren’t much help for Lake Travis as they only scored twice; leaving the final score at 8-5, Huskies. The team left as the victor and Area Champs.

“Our mindset was to [continue] to go all the way, this was the first time in a long time that we made it passed the first round and there was no way we were ready to leave,” junior Mercedes Vergara said.

In the regional quarterfinals, the Huskies will play New Braunfels Canyon Thursday at 7 pm at the Northside stadium in field two. Game two of that series will be on Friday at 8 pm at Canyon; and if necessary, the third game will be on Saturday at 12pm at the SAISD stadium. The Husky athletes look to continue winning and striving for greatness, hoping to land a spot in the state semi-finals.
