For their individual service project, Sierra Burton and Alissa Ballard came up with the idea of Healthy Field Day of Fun. Project HFDF consisted of the students going to Carnahan Elementary School and giving a presentation on the importance of staying healthy and encouraging kids to participate in activities that would keep them moving.
Burton believes that children in elementary schools have a general idea about healthy foods, but they needed more knowledge about their physical health, as well.
“What kids need to learn more about is how being unhealthy affects them,” Burton said.
Burton and Ballard also collected snacks to take to the students while they enjoyed their Field Day. The girls hope that their project helped instill lifelong habits for the kids.
