Students can now see and learn about different plays and musical productions with the Broadway club sponsored by health science teacher AnnMarie Walker.
“I believe it will lead to students growing a deeper appreciation for the arts,” Walker said.
Before going to see any productions, members learn about different aspects of the play, including the orchestration, the history behind it and the time period it takes place in.
“I love plays and musicals,” Walker said. “I think this [club] will broaden [the students’] experiences.”
The creation of the club occurred due to Walkers present appreciation to this form of art, as well as the fascination existing in some students.
“I’ve been doing [plays] since I was young,” Broadway club president junior Kimberly Burton said. “I’ve always had an interest in them.”
Prior experience is not necessary to become a member.
“Everybody is welcome to come, it’s fun,” Burton said.
The focus of the club does not only stay within the school, but the community.
“We’re basically supporting local arts in San Antonio, opening avenues in different areas rather than just health careers,” Burton said.
Trips are planned to go to the Woodlawn theatre in December and to the Majestic theatre in April.
“We are very excited of what this club will bring for the school,” Walker said.
