PSAT scores will be released for student viewing between Dec. 10-12, and students have a
multitude of options on where to go next once receiving this score.
For freshman and sophomores, scores can be used as reference points in anticipation for the 11th grade PSAT and eventual SAT. They are indicators of how a student will score and what areas a student needs to study and a jumping point for future tests.
“The first thing I would recommend to students is linking scores to Khan Academy,” counselor Dixie White said. “What that will do is let Khan Academy create an individualized study plan. It is easy to do and free.”
White stated that the statistics serve as little more than a reference point when seeking guidance.
“When freshmen and sophomores start looking at scores,” White said, “it’s about giving tools, not the actual scores.”
White also suggests that students explore Cafe College, a free resource located in downtown San Antonio that offers study sessions and full-length practice tests. However, she emphasizes the importance of being prepared as a major factor in improving PSAT/SAT scores.
“More than anything, it is about having a plan,” White said. “What are things you can do to strengthen your weaknesses before next year?”
