After seven years of waiting for the next official sequel, it’s finally here.
Vault Dwellers and Wastelanders from around the world gathered on Nov. 10 to get their hands on Fallout 4; A post-apocalyptic, open world, role-playing game that sold 1.2 million copies on Steam (A gaming platform on PC), and also had the most players playing at once on the aforementioned platform. Fallout 4 broke all-time records according to Steam and Bethesda(Developers of Fallout 4).
The game’s story is intriguing and filled with inner conflict on the road to finding your son, after being contained in cryosleep for over 200 years, after the great nuclear war of 2077, after the world was decimated and turned into a wasteland. One of these conflicts are synths, (short for synthetics) that look, talk, and act like humans, but are really robots.
The gameplay itself is very entertaining. You will wander the Commonwealth (in the ruins of Boston and the area surrounding it) battling raiders, super mutants, radscorpions, feral ghouls, and more with a new combat system that feels much more fluid. The best part of Fallout 4 is that you can go explore and do whatever you want, whenever you want, and be whoever you want. You can create endless characters and playthroughs doing this, from being a psycho to a saint who helps out everyone he comes across. (Which is surprisingly effective.)
I do feel that the game was a tad bit overhyped though. I was so thrilled to get my hands on this game, but then found that it fell short in ways that highly disappointed me, such as the abysmal leveling system and the ending isn’t nearly as detailed and fleshed-out as the other Fallout games. The dialogue is atrocious as well, being narrowed down to four generic choices: To be sarcastic, ask a question, be a jerk or be extremely amiable and friendly while agreeing to whatever they say.
Fallout 4 is an extremely charming and addicting game that will most likely eat up my winter break that is a ton of fun, but has some hiccups in game design and interface that make it feel like Bethesda slacked on this one. But even so, I’ll be playing this game for a long time.
