Movies like “High School Musical” always make high school life seem so fun and free, but the reality is that not everyone can have the fabulous Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez life.
Seniors have certain expectations entering their final year on campus, and those expectations are now meeting with reality after completing the first six weeks of their senior year.
“I expected it to be a lot of fun and to make a lot of memories but in reality I know it’s really sad because I have to leave everybody and it’s apart of growing up,” Senior Matthew Arriaga said.
While Arriaga finds the good and the bad in the final year, others find that they get the opposite of what they were expecting; which sometimes turns out being the best thing for them.
“Honestly I was expecting senior year to be more stressful and harder, but as of right now its been easy and I feel more open to the entire school and meeting new people,” Senior Dimas Garcia said.
Still others are realizing that they need to take senior year as their last year to give it there all in academics.
“I expected it to be more fun than it is. There’s a lot less free time than I thought because of the scholarship essays, college essays, and deadlines,” Senior Dana Vazquez said.
Despite all the hardships that preparing to move on from high school brings, most students recognize how valuable senior year will be one to their future. Seniors like Victoria Sanchez are cherishing their memories while refusing to lose sight of the purpose of their last months as high school students.
“I don’t want for all of the things I’m sacrificing to be done in vain. I expect myself to rise above all obstacles and become the person I’m supposed to be,” Senior Victoria Sanchez said.
