With humor in every punch, Po,the dumpling-eating kung fu master voiced by coimedian Jack Black, predictably fought his way to victory in the third installment of the Dreamworks animated movie, Kung Fu Panda 3. But it didn’t pack the punch I hoped it would. The plot was completely predictable. With every event being explained before the action happens, there wasn’t much to look forward to as the story unfolds, and a choppy plot left me to question if there’s a fourth movie in the making.

The movie did make up for its plot shortcomings with humor, and the theme hit home with the focus on the true meaning of family, that no matter how far apart you are, you’re still family. The feel-good theme was not backed up by a good climax in action, as I expected more to come after what seemed like the main battle between Po And Kai. And Kai, voiced by J.K. Simmons, was most worthy adversary and bad guy out of the two previous films. This is the true villain you would actually want to see. With style in weapons, and a cunning personality, Kai has a true purpose in the movie, but falls short in the action.

The movie has heart, but not the substance to back it up. The movie has a true villain, but not the development to back up what a huge threat Kai could really be. In the end, the movie came up seemingly short and predictable, leaving me wishing I’d waited to see it when it comes out on DVD.
