Gone Girl is a thriller novel written by Gillian Flynn.
The phrase “opposites attract” is true for Amy and Nick. Amy is the perfect, beautiful daughter and the inspiration to the authors of “Amazing Amy.” She’s adored by her parents, and is more than financially stable, especially with the revenue that the books inspired by her brought. While Nick, his family is anything but perfect, he has issues with his father and he’s a “mama’s boy” which has turned him into a chronic people pleaser. With their 5th wedding anniversary coming up, preparations between the couples had started; Amy’s annual scavenger hunt was filled with little memento clues that would lead Nick to a “surprise” and Nick, well, he tried, but it was never enough. (what was never enough, him finding the surprise?) The night of their anniversary, Amy disappeared, leaving the police to track her whereabouts, while Nick became their #1 suspect in her disappearance.
A few words to describe this book: insane, page turner, #crazy wife say what. This was the craziest book I read all summer (also the only book I read). The novel is divided into two sections: First is Nick’s point of view, then Amy’s, which is one of the things I love because you get to see both sides of the story and not just one biased part. The chapters skipped from present time to flashbacks of how they met and how it all lead to this one moment, so one chapter/page could be talking about how the search for Amy is going and then the next it would be a memory of the past. There were so many twists in this book, and moments that leave you speechless and thinking “Did THIS really happen!? What the heck!” It definitely takes crazy onto another level. It’s not only a crazy book (it is also a crazy movie with Ben Affleck) that will have you DESPISING the ending because you absolutely do not expect to end that way.
Book Club will be meeting in the library tomorrow, September 21 at 4:15 pm where we’ll select what books we’ll be reading and discussing soon.
