Junkie, known for their groovy surf vibes, has made a big impact in the local San Antonio music scene, especially for teens and people in their early 20s.

I’ve been obsessed with this band for almost a year now and they’re something most people have never heard before. With their catchy melodies you’re bound to start dancing and maybe some head banging at one of their shows, which they have many in San Antonio. During the summer they had a tour going to the west coast that got them many new fans. They bring so much excitement and fun to their shows, so even if you don’t feel all their songs, you can easily dance with your friends.

In all honesty all their songs are my favorite, but if I had to pick 3 in a life or death situation I would pick “dress me all in black”, “suns out”, and “glued ghouls.”

Dress Me All in Black is one of my favorites to see live. It has a fast groovy sound to dance wild to and every time I hear this song I feel like dancing with my friends. Not to mention all the great lyrics it has for example, “Put me in a blender,” and “I’m unattached and I don’t feel bad.” Even myself have tweeted those lyrics once or twice. Also I’m in the music video for this song on youtube for like 2 seconds so I’ll definitely be putting that on my list of greatest achievements. My love for Suns Out is unexplainable, but I’ll try my best to, it’s about a girl, obviously (most junkie songs are). It’s really one of those songs where you think about a person you liked, but they didn’t care about you as much as you care about them. My favorite lyrics from this song are ,”suns out and you’re not around,” “I’m a ghost in love with you,” and “you’re so pretty I want you.” Glued Ghouls is definitely another boy wants girl with lyrics like, “she’s so pretty she couldn’t see me”, but she doesn’t care for him, “maybe i’ll see her again, she won’t remember my name.”

I went to one of their shows recently and talked to Mark Perez, the singer and guitarist, on how the band started, the future for Junkie, and about their fan base.

“Junkie started off as a new project for me when I had quit my band. I was messing around getting into new music and exploring a new style for fun just so I wouldn’t be bored. James and I were in the same band together so I asked him to drum with me. Our bassist, Daniel, is our best friend and was always around so we asked him to pick up bass and that’s how junkie came about. As of now future plans are just to keep playing shows, especially outside of San Antonio and Texas. Also we’re working on our 2nd full length which were aiming to put out early 2017. Our fan base is great, the support we have received and are still getting has been so nice. Everyone is good to us and we are so appreciated of them. We love talking to everyone. We love one on ones meeting new people. Much love xoxo,” Perez said.
