As the team traveled to Corpus Christi to compete in the humid morning weather this last weekend, they went in with the mentality that despite the circumstances they were facing, they were going to give it there all.

“We were all sick and our result turned out bad. As a team we made 356 points. We did not play the way we wanted to,” Senior Nehemiah Pineda said.

Despite this rough meet in Corpus, the team rallied and had a solid performance at the district meet, keeping their eyes on making it back to state. The Varsity boys and Varsity girls both placed 3rd and qualified for the Regional meet taking place this Saturday back in Corpus Christi.

Ethan Hageman was the back-to-back boys varsity champion, finishing the race in 15:33. Maddy Howard was 4th overall in the girls varsity race, followed closely by Isabel and Anabel Korrodi.

Falon Rateau placed 5th in the JV girls race and the JV girls placed 3rd overall, while boys JV ran a good race to end their season on a positive note.

With their performance at district, the Huskies are determined to make it to state this year.

“Our goal for this season is to qualify for state and be top three as a team,” Pineda said.

Even with the success at district, the team believes that there are always ways to improve and better themselves.

“I have been working for the past few years to reach this point and I am finally here, but there is plenty of room for improvement,”` junior Phillip Garcia said.
