After completing their regular season with a record of 21 wins and three losses along with the district title, the softball team is headed to their first round playoff series against Clemens high school tomorrow at 7pm at the NISD softball fields on Culebra Rd.
Despite their dominating performance in the regular season, they are striving for bigger and better things. They hope to go far in the playoffs and clinch a spot in the state championship game; which would be a dream come true for these hard working student athletes.
“The goal is to make it to state, but before we get ahead of ourselves, we are looking to have fun and take it game by game,” senior Destiny Rodriguez said.
Last year the softball team had great success with a winning record and playoff appearance. Despite making it into the playoffs, they didn’t go too far as they lost in the first round. It wasn’t a bad start for a group of young athletes adjusting to their roles for the team; and once everything was all figured out they were a well-oiled machine ready to dominate.
“We definitely improved on team chemistry. We all got along really well and even improved our trust and feel like a family,” junior Mercedes Vergara said.
They look to continue their win streak as they compete in their first playoff game of the postseason tomorrow, April 27 at NISD field at 7:00 p.m. The best-of-three series includes a game two on Friday, April 28 at 7pm at Clemens’ field, and a game three (if necessary) at 12pm on Saturday, April 29 at Judson softball field.
