Tonight at Gus stadium the varsity football takes on the Brennan Bears at 7:00pm. Here’s a little insight on what the fans and team should expect tonight:
Last week, the Huskies had to adjust to minor setbacks due to injured players. Here is how the team will adjust:
“It’s a different atmosphere. With young players, they’ll show you signs of great things they can do, but they’ll make a mistake. It’s a lot different from playing a Thursday evening JV game, but that’s what some of our guys are learning to do,” defensive coach Adrian Trevino said.
Trevino breaks down what to expect from Brennan’s offense.
“They are a power running team, and they have a great line. It’s going to be a big challenge for us. What we’re trying to do this week is challenge the defense to rise the occasion against a good offense,” Trevino said.
Head coach Juan Morales further lets fans know what to expect from the opponent on offense.
“They have a great running game, a great set of linemen, and a very, very explosive running back, so they’re going to be pretty good. Our main focus is to see if we can stop the run before we do anything else. If they get some passes off or get some yards off of that, then we’ll live with it,” Morales said.
Although some players like Jacob Longoria and DQ Haney have returned from injury after having several starters out last week, there are some that are still in the process of recovering.
“Marquis Jones is still out with a broken collar bone, so I think he’s going to be out for another week or so before he’ll be able to get dressed. Our lineman, John Ray, is still going through protocol for a concussion he had, so we want to make sure he’s okay before we put him out on the field,” Morales said.
Go out tonight and support the Huskies, and also raise awareness of breast cancer by wearing a pink shirt to the game. The matchup takes place at Gus stadium at 7:00pm.
