Above: Senior Alex P. Rojas shares his survey of students in 5th lunch about their favorite Disney Movies with The Gavel staff in A004.

The following article is a guest column by a Holmes High School student who is not currently enrolled in journalism or a part of the The Gavel staff. Senior Alex Rojas approached the Gavel Staff with an impromptu survey he conducted of random members of the student body, and we wanted to share his work with our readers. Alex collected the data and created the pie chart on his own merit, and we asked him to share a few words about what he found out, his motivation, and his process. We’ve also invited him to appear as a regular guest columnist and to share more of his surveys and results with the student body.

Here’s what Rojas had to say:

“I am really impressed with Disney Movies and TV shows. I made this pie chart of the Disney Films. What I did is that I made a survey and went around during 5th period lunch and asked a bunch of students what Disney Movie they think is the best. When I tallied up the votes, The Lion King for the most, with 16% of the vote.”

“I got the idea to do the survey from Silver in Angry Birds 2. Silver asked people questions about their favorite food and other things, and I decided to do the same thing, because I like how Silver is so smart and cute.”

Rojas’ passion for Disney movies doesn’t end with conducting surveys. He envisions convincing campus leadership to have regular “Disney movie nights” in the auditorium open to students and their families.

What movie would Rojas recommend starting with if this were to happen?

The Lion King, of course. Why? Rojas knows his audience thanks to the survey.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from movies, it’s that you’ve got give the public what they want!”
