Freshmen felt welcomed as they took on a new school, meeting new people, and experiencing new things. They also have big dreams they want to achieve as they complete their first six-weeks of the school year.

Freshmen Victoria Lemus likes the help she can get with her classes and appreciates both her teachers as well as her fellow students.

“They are nice and understanding. I like that there is tutoring after school and on the weekends,” Lemus said.

Freshmen Justin Moczygemba enjoyed his first experiences in band, just as many others get their first taste of programs that they’ll stick with for four years.

“Band is amazing. It’s an awesome new experience. All of the marching is fun and the students are nice,” Moczygemba said.

Moczygemba appreciates the teachers as well, admitting to a difference in style he hasn’t experienced until recently.

“The teachers are better than any I’ve ever had,” Moczygemba said.

Freshmen Emily Bermea is also pleased with the kindness she’s experienced from others on campus, and has found her place in an organization on campus as well.

“Everyone was extremely helpful. Pep squad keeps you super busy, but it’s extremely worth it. The officers and directors are so sweet and outgoing and they have a good time with us. They genuinely care about each and everyone of us,” Bermea said.

To these freshmen, Holmes is a place of opportunity and great experiences, and for students like Moczygemba, their plans for their future are beginning to take shape.

“I want to become a professional soccer player and have a successful business and try for a scholarship,” Moczygemba said.

Bermea also has her eyes on her future starting out.

“I want to go to a college that I can benefit from, not just any one that is acceptable, my goals is to get a degree in photography, film, or media,” Bermea said.

For students like Lemus, the goal is personal and she is motivated by circumstances.

“I want to be the first in my family to go to college and graduate,” Lemus said.

Whatever the circumstance and whatever the plans, current freshmen are making choices every day, some of which that will impact their future and set the course for their adult life.
