Asylum by Madeleine Roux is a horror fiction book.
Dan Crawford, a junior in high school, decides to attend a college camp during the summer in the New Hampshire College. The dorm in which the students will be residing was an old sanatorium (also known as an asylum) used for the criminally insane that had been shut down years because of malpractice.
Daniel, along with his friends Abby and Jordan, decide to go on and explore the closed off section of the dorm which still held parts of the old asylum, such as an office and files of the patients. Throughout the book, the reader can notice that it was no coincidence for them to attend the program, and that they all have ties to the old asylum.
In the beginning, the book was a little bit slow to get to the actual ‘scary’ part. After a few chapters, they got to the exploring part and started discovering clues which is when the exciting part started. There were so many twists and little cliff-hangers that kept me turning the pages of the book, that it was a very interesting read.
Reading it at night was a bad idea because in some parts it actually made me feel creeped out. The book, although it is not super scary, does have its moments, especially with the real asylum pictures that can be seen throughout. I definitely recommend Asylum if you like a quick, easy read.
