All Over the Place
By: Elizabeth Robinett, 8th Grade
Could you ever imagine moving from a place you’ve lived at your whole life to a place that you know barely nothing about? 6th grader, Danielle Robinett and her family of 7 moved from Fayetteville, Arkansas to San Antonio, Texas in early July. That’s over a 9 hour drive!
Who knew something as small as a new job would change her entire world? The whole Robinett family moved from Arkansas to Texas because of their parent’s job. Danielle recalled, “I did not want to move to San Antonio at first, but I am starting to really enjoy it here.”
Danielle’s summer started by attending a 5 week summer camp. A musical conservatory, located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. At this musical conservatory, everyone had to wake up at 6:25am every morning. Sundays were the only exception when you were allowed to sleep in.
At camp, she could major in Brass, Dance, Theater, Art, Piano, Percussion, and more; however everyone who attends camp is in choir! Danielle majored in Brass Band playing the cornet, her second major was dance. She was in the second choir, Kathrine Barne Girls Chorus. She also got the chance to meet Mark Ridenour; Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It was an honor that Mark got to conduct the band Danielle was playing in!
The move and summer camp were not the only things she was able to do this summer. She also went to some water parks and amusement parks. While Danielle was in camp, they took all of the kids to Frontier City in Oklahoma City. This was one of the amusement parks she attended this summer. Her favorite ride at Frontier City was the Steel Lasso. Once back in San Antonio, she experienced Sea World. Danielle went on almost all of the rides, but her favorite ride was the Wave Breaker.
Shlitterbahn and Aquatica are the two coolest places to be during the summer. Danielle also experienced both of these parks. Her favorite water ride at Aquatica is Stingray Falls, “It was a very long wait but totally worth it in the end!” She doesn’t have a favorite ride at Schlitterbahn because her favorite part was the Crazy River.
Although Danielle traveled a lot this summer, her favorite part was seeing her friends. “Seeing Lily and Susannah is the best. I don’t get to see them all of the time because they live in Virginia but when I do get to see them I am thrilled!” exclaimed Danielle.
Being new to San Antonio, Danielle went with her dad and sister to the River Walk. As a family, they went on one of the boat tours and got to learn more about San Antonio. “My favorite part about the boat ride was seeing the stage where the Ms. Congeniality swimsuit competition was filmed, I love Sandra Bullock!”
Danielle had quite the summer. Her summer started off with her in Arkansas then to Oklahoma, even to Hector Arkansas, and ending in San Antonio. She traveled a lot over the summer… All Over The Place!
I love this feature article and how it recapped all of Robinett’s summer! I’m happy that she gradually came to like San Antonio!
