Allergies are Taking Over

Lots of people suffer from allergies mostly during fall. Allergy season is here. How are we gonna deal with it? I know people feel different symptoms when they have allergies. Some people have it really bad. I know for me it’s not that bad, just a little runny nose. While others seem to have a full blown and cold allergy season with red eyes, runny nose, and cough for a full three months.
What I’ve been noticing too are people’s eyes watering. I spoke to Madison Marie, in 7th grade, about her experience with allergies, “Yes [my eyes have] been watering a lot lately. They keep bothering me, why is this happening?” As the weather cools, more people are at risk of getting cold. Girls that come to school with wet hair are even more susceptible to allergies.
For most people, allergies last about 2-3 weeks. But more often than not, it goes away for a little then comes back. For some people, being out in the fresh air can help, while for others, fresh air triggers more allergies. For me, when I’m walking around after school I’m not as bothered, but when I get home to the cool air conditioning my nose starts being runny and I can’t really breathe.
Some symptoms you should look out for are itchy or watery eyes, runny nose, stomach cramps, sore throat, sneezing. Yup, you read that correctly, stomach cramps! You can make them go away by getting a hot towel and putting it on your stomach. It’ll help a lot. Also you can use a heating pad and put it all the way up. It’ll help your stomach cramps go down. Heat relaxes muscles and relaxes cramps. At school you can go to the nurse. They might give you a warm towel to use for a little. It’ll help and make it go down a little bit.
Another thing that won’t feel the best is a sore throat. If you don’t want to feel that anymore you can drink a lot of water. Trying to prevent dehydration would make it better since your throat is already sore. Another thing is to get a lot of rest. Your body, as strange as it may seem, is being attacked by something in the air. Be sure you get plenty of sleep. Let your body recover and rest and hopefully it will only last for a few days. Make sure not to make it worse and take care of it while you have it. It will hurt when you eat and swallow so be careful what you eat, take smaller bites. Carbonated drinks can sometimes help. “When I have a sore throat I drink a lot of water, but Dr. Pepper always makes my throat feel better. I’ll drink that, or if I’m really desperate, I will gargle with salt water.” Mrs. Neal stated.
For the runny nose and itchy eyes. Make sure to use soft tissues to keep your nose from getting all red and sore your eyes, they have eye drops, but try not to touch your eyes. When you touch them, you are only adding more contaminates to your eyes. It’s a vicious cycle.
Now, you know some ways to get rid of some of the symptoms with remedies. Stay safe out there and try to get better. Do your best to rest, and know, you are not alone. Several of us suffer from allergies.
