Lights, Camera, Action

People come out with bruises on their body and blood on their clothes. Some are limping towards them and the others are running. Families and friends are laughing and clapping, but before that happens, people start to arrive to watch. The doors open and people enter the cafeteria. Flyers are being passed around and people start to take their seat. The entire room is dark except for the flashing lights on stage. You can hear stomping in the background and families whispering. Cameras are popping up from the audience and the curtains start to open. Families press play on their cameras and the show begins.
Jordan Middle School performed the play “10 Ways To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse” written by Don Zolidis. It must be good, because he’s written over 100 plays. Ms. Villanueva says, “The school has performed this play for many years, so we probably won’t show it next year.” November 10th will be the only day this school year that you can see “10 Ways To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse” played by our very own students here at Jordan Middle School.
Ms. Villanueva says, “All the students work well together, and with great communication that will result in a great play.” What also helps is that the students just got their first electronic mics that latch onto their shirts. When there is a malfunction, they all have to communicate, so the show continues to go well. Since it is advanced theater, they have a lot of history together so they’re not shy, and they have experience talking to each other.
Each show that’s chosen depends on the group of students Ms. Villanueva gets that year. She chooses depending on the students’ personalities, and what their comforts are, this way she can cast each part well. The advanced theater has been working on this play since the first week of September and they have practiced every day.
The show “10 Ways To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse” was very entertaining. The audience loved it and the applause and cheering showed it. It had romance, action, and comedy. The show is about two boys and two girls who just have to put up with each other because they have to work together to fight off a bunch of zombies. There are arguments, fights, and even a bit of sassiness. Even if you couldn’t see the actors, the audience was still laughing, especially when the characters would go behind the curtain to be attacked by zombies. The hilarious action made the actors laugh too. The actors would run from the zombies waving their hands in the air and scream. Some of them even fell while they were running. Ms. Villanueva did a great job casting the roles. They couldn’t have suited each individual more perfectly.
I am so happy I got to see “10 Ways To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse.” The advanced theatre class has more performances this year, so don’t miss out on the entertaining upcoming shows. Invite your friends and family to enjoy a great time all together!
