Better than Yesterday

Is it too cliche to say, New Year- New Me? Probably, but I mean it is a new year, why not make it a new me? I guess that I really could reinvent myself anytime of the year or make a goal or focus board whenever I see fit, but it’s tradition to start the new year with new resolutions.
History of New Year Resolutions
According to HistoryChannel.com, “The ancient Babylonians are said to have been the first people to make New Year’s resolutions, some 4,000 years ago.” Also with a 12 day festival, they would make goals, hopes, and wishes about the year’s crops. Not a far leap from that to our New Year’s Eve celebrations and resolutions.
2024 Student Resolutions
Keeping with the traditions, several students have made resolutions or goals for themselves. And like most resolutions, some will stick strong to their resolution while others just say their resolution and quickly forget about it.
7th grader, Ariel Robles, said, “This is the year that I keep on top of my grades!” She plans to keep with it because, “My mom said that she would take my phone as soon as I get behind on grades.” Seeing that it’s a new year and new 9 weeks, keeping on top of grades is a popular resolution this year.
Keeping up with a New Year’s resolution or a goal in general takes a lot of discipline. 7th grader, Dain Perez, “It’s not really a motivation that I have to keep my New Year’s resolutions, but more of self discipline.” This is hard because most middle schoolers, heck most of society, has a difficult time with self discipline.
Every new year many people try to come up with new year resolutions, but I think that it’s really about every day. Every day you should try to make it better than yesterday.
