Fiesta Origins
No time for siesta time to fiesta! With fiesta here let’s talk about the origins of the first fiesta! The origins go way back to 1891,when a group of women from elite San Antonio society bedecked themselves and their horse-drawn carriages in flowers. Since then the tradition grew into what it is today.
The festival known as “fiesta ” is rooted from Christianity dating back to the Spanish colonial period! Although this was one story of how fiesta started there are many other theories. One of them states that the fiesta started in order to honor the fallen soldiers of the Alamo and the battle of San Jancito. These were just two out of the many other theories.
However, Fiesta began and it has grown to be one of the biggest festivals in all of Texas!
Battle of the Flowers Begins!
Fiesta starts Thu, Apr 18, 2024 and ends on Sun, Apr 28, 2024. Fiesta is a large event where people all over the country come to visit. During the week of Fiesta shops, restaurants, and other businesses around town decorate in fiestas bright colorful banners.
There are 3 major events to look out for during Fiesta are the 2 on the main street Broadway and the final and very popular river parade. Many people also love to buy Fiesta medals! Fiesta medals are created each year for the fiesta attendees to wear throughout fiesta week. Even though they don’t seem to be important or popular fiesta medals are a huge deal! Non-profit organizations and companies and even schools can give away or sell fiesta medals. If you get enough you can create a Fiesta wreath!
How to Survive Fiesta Tips!
Before going out to party make sure you plan ahead! Planning ahead makes your time at Fiesta less stressful.
The most important tip to survive Fiesta is to stay hydrated! Fiesta takes place in Texas! Texas is the 3rd most hottest state in the U.S! To avoid unplanned visits to the hospital, make sure to stay hydrated and even bring or buy water.
Fiesta is a great place to be, with walking around the river walk and enjoying the parades. Walking and standing in place for 2 whole parades can be uncomfortable; therefore, bring sneakers or tennis shoes.
Before you go to fiesta make sure to bring money! Some tents in the Fiesta sell food, medals and other souvenirs and they often require cash. Although most places will have a card reader, cash will be required for the parking fee.
If a ticket for an event at a fiesta seems pricey, there’s always Market Square. It is filled with people, music, and a lively atmosphere!
All in all fiesta is a wonderful place to be, and a great place to party! See you at Fiesta!
