What are Magnet Schools?

Magnet schools are just like every other public school. However, magnet schools specialize in having courses that specialize in a certain program. For example, some magnet schools are for technology courses and others are for agriculture. Every magnet school has an area of study program. Magnet schools are mainly for students who already have a general idea of what they want to pursue as they get older.

In order to get into a magnet school you usually have to go through an application process. In the application process you have to answer some questions and then just submit what area of their programs interest you. After you submit your application, you have to wait until the first round of acceptance letters get sent. Keep in mind that not everyone will get in, spots are very limited when it comes to magnet schools. You have to have good grades and good attendance in order to be placed in the “lottery drawing”. You get chosen randomly once they pick from the students they like. When you get accepted they email you and you must choose if you are going to reject the offer or accept it. When you reject the offer the acceptance letter then gets sent to the students who got waitlisted.

Benefits of a Magnet School

Even though going to a magnet school doesn’t really pique the interest of many students, many students don’t know the wide range of opportunities going to a magnet school gives you. Going to magnet school can help you a lot academically when it comes to graduation time. When you apply for college, a lot of the time they look at your past schools and extracurriculars. But with a magnet school on your profile it shows that you are capable of challenges and you were one of the few students picked to attend the school.

Magnet schools help you with your choice of career. Some magnet schools even give you a chance to graduate with your associates degree with your high school diploma. They can also give you certificates needed for a job that you are interested in. You can even get apprenticeships which will help you get more experience in your desired work area. Magnet schools play a big part in your college and work life. They can help get you ready for your college life and prepare you for SAT’s and ACT’s.
