Books And Bonds: Balancing Middle School Relationships And School

Micaela Martinez (8)

Middle school is already hard enough. And a lot of changes come with it such as, new classes, harder homework, growing friendships, and sometimes a crush.

Between trying to keep up with grades and wanting to spend time with friends or a special someone, things can become overwhelming; however, with the right people and mindset, it’s possible to enjoy both without one getting in the way of the other.

Balancing Relationships and School

One of the biggest challenges in middle school is learning how to manage your time. School comes with a lot of responsibilities with homework, projects, and sports. At the same time friendships and relationships are becoming important as well but the key thing is putting the important things first and then friendships and relationships follow.

Put School First

As a middle school student taking high school classes and in sports, school is super important. It might not sound exciting, but school should always be your priority. Your education helps build your future and missing assignments or falling behind can cause stress later on. A good thing to keep in mind is to finish homework and studying before hanging out with friends or texting your crush. This way you can enjoy your social life without worrying about unfinished work. And your parents won,t take your phone away keeping you from all of your updates and games

Healthy Relationships Help You Succeed

The best relationships and friendships are the ones that make you feel supported.Good friends encourage you  to do good things in your academics. If  they don’t support you then  they aren’t worth your time or energy. If a relationship distracts you from school, then that should be your sign to step back and refocus on school.

Manage YOUR Time

Time  management makes balancing a lot easier. If you don’t know how to manage your time you can always start by doing small goals like completing one subject before taking a break. You can also use a planner with all the things you have during the month or the week, and make sure you plan it at least a week before. When you make time for both responsibilities and fun life feels less overwhelming.

Stay True To Yourself

Sometimes students feel pressure to change who they are just to fit in with a friend group or relationship. But real connections happen when you are your true self. So don’t get rid of hobbies, goals or schoolwork and especially don’t do stupid things just to impress somebody else.

Bottom Line

Balancing school and relationships in middle school isn’t always easy, but it is an important skill. It’s one of those life lessons they keep talking about; something that you will take with you.
