Gooooaaaalll- Soccer Season
Cyles Salazar (8)
Did you know that soccer dates back more than 2,000 years? It’s a sport that is played around the world. You may have heard of the World Cup; yup that’s the championship playoffs for soccer. Ever heard of Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? Those are the jerseys you see around the hallway.
Soccer, like many other sports, has been brought to the middle school and high school level to teach and train students that do not have the added availability to play for clubs. The teams are made up of 18 people with 11 on the field for each team. You have your strikers, defense, goalie, and you have different kicks from instep kick, outside kick, toe kick, to volley kick.
At Jordan Middle School they had tryouts earlier this month. There were so many people that tried out, they had two rounds of cuts. The boys’ team had tryouts for 4 days, due to the cross over of track season, while the girls’ team had 3 days.
Everyone eagerly waited to find out if they made the team. Some were more happy than others, but there was a good handful that were selected as managers for the 7th and 8th grade teams. The managers won’t see field time this year, but they will get the practice and training to help for their future seasons.
So far our soccer teams have had two games. This is how the teams have performed so far.
School | 8th Girls | 7th Girls | 8th Boys | 7th Boys |
Zachry | 0-8 | 0-4 | 2-1 | 1-2 |
Jefferson | 6-1 | 5-3 | 0-1 | 2-0 |
This week our Jags play Stinson, so come out and support the Jordan Jags!
