The Culinary Arts organization is set to showcase its skills at the upcoming salsa making competition, highlighting the talents of chefs and vibrant flavors they can create.
Four Culnary representatives will be participating in a salsa-making competition at St. Philip’s Community College on Oct. 8th. The competition will involve making salsa from scratch, table decorations, and teamwork involved.
“As the date gets closer, I’m just excited to participate in an event like this. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything like this, so I’m hoping that this is going to be a glimpse of how the year is going to go.” Senior Alex Rosario, President of Culinary, said.
As the organization prepares for the competition, they must navigate challenges under tight time constraints.
“I think the biggest challenge is mosty trying to perfect the recipe we’re using since we would need to make the salsa in person and under pressure,” Senior Ashton Merida, Year 1 representative, said. “We’re mostly trying to do something different with our salsa and now just the same old salsa we all know or and have had.”
Despite the competition ahead, Culinary Arts is a passion, and the team remains eager to showcase the fruits of their effort..
“I think that the competition would just be an excuse to do what I love, which is cooking and I get to do it with my friends and my family,” Rosario said. “My family is also in full support so this competition has reminded me how amazing my circle is in supporting me.”
