The spirit organization held a dance clinic on Saturday, Oct. 12th at school for students who wanted to perform during halftime at the pink out game.
The Dance and Drill team held an annual dance clinic event where elementary, middle, and high school students learned a choreographed dance to show on the field, and a dance to show to their parents.
“For the mini clinic I taught second and third graders a dance with the song Havana by Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, and then we taught them the halftime performance and danced with them at the pink out game.” Former drill student Jada Rackley said.
Dance and drill team groups worked together to teach a younger group of girls.
“It was a really fun morning, we would have snack breaks and talk to the kids.” Rackley said.
“I loved the little kids and all their little personalities because they were all so adorable and they definitely spoke their mind,” Former dance team member and leader of the group Mikayla Salis said.
The girls at the dance clinic learned a total of 2 dances.
“So I taught them the first dance, which is the one they show to their parents that the parents show off. And then I also helped teach the one at the football game,” Former dance team member Mikayla Salis said.
The dance and drill teams goal was to prepare the girls for their desire to pursue dancing.
“It was to help the kids see what a dance team is for the future, but also for the little ones, it was to make sure they have fun and just have a good time.” Salis said.
During the halftime performance, a particularly memorable moment was with a young girl who was very attached to her.
“There was especially this little girl and she would just follow me around everywhere and it was so cute. She would hold my hand and everything,” Salis said. “It was adorable, she also counted the steps with me.”
The new friendships and hard work paid off making the whole experience more enjoyable for Mikayla and her dance and drill teammates.
