Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is a week that is influential to all North side schools. Whether students participate or not, it is important for schools to provide the resources and bring awareness to drug use.
Red Ribbon week is a week that brings awareness to saying no to drugs and showcases the importance of living a drug free life.
“I feel like it brings awareness on the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse,” Student Council Vice President Johanna Avila said. “I feel like it’s a way to tackle down the struggle of vaping that’s really constant at our school.”
“When we’re planning, we kind of brainstorm the big ideas the counselors give us , and we’ll ask them what else are you interested in doing,” Avila said. “We narrow down the ideas and bring it up to admin whether those ideas are approved or not.”
This year the counselors are having a new approach to Red Ribbon Week and did a pop up booth on Halloween day.
“This year, we opted for a fresh approach with a Red Ribbon Halloween Pop-Up Bash instead of daily activities. The event included several engaging elements: MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) was present, sharing valuable information, statistics, and they had fun giveaways to educate students on the dangers of drinking and driving,” LMS Counselor Morgan Snead said. “They also had a banner where students pledged to be drug/alcohol free and it was really cool to see it 100% full.”
This week is important to not only highlight the consequences of drug and alcohol use, but to help promote healthy choices overall.
“Ideally, it will foster a sense of unity and responsibility among students, reminding them that they can support each other in making healthy lifestyle choices,” Snead said.

The two different perspectives from the vice president and counselor were nice! I like how you showed there was something different this year compared to last.
I love the details and how you included everyone and everything that was going to be happening during the red ribbon week events.
Great story! I really liked how you explained the difference in this year’s red ribbon week compared to our past red ribbon weeks. I also really liked your transitions and thought it flowed well.
