As baseball season slowly approaches, the boys are getting ready to play ball. With their first district game being Feb. 18 against Taft High School at Northside Field number two, the team prepares for a new season filled with eager athletes who are ready to get to work.

“This group of athletes are talented, work extremely hard every day and they are all excited about the upcoming season,” Head baseball Coach Figueroa said.

The Rams are back in district 28, playing Northside schools with some serious competition. Last season the O’Connor Panthers went deep into playoffs beating Reagan and Johnson High School.

“They have a good team but I believe we have what it takes to not only compete but get a win over this team,” senior right fielder Robert Colunga said.

The team is working on learning different strategies to help their game during the season, like working on making a plan so the team knows what to do when they are at bat. This plan allows the team to get players in scoring positions and should result in scoring more runs.

“Even though there are some good teams in our district,” Figueroa said. “As long as we play like we are capable of playing we will compete against any team.”

The Rams begin their season with a scrimmage this Saturday Feb. 1 at South San high school at 11a.m.

“I feel like this team will play as a unit and not individuals which will result in wins,” Figueroa said.
