From bus loop sales to calling for donations, clubs all over the campus partake in the hunt for capital. Since January is at its near end and February is due for its beginning, French Club is starting carnation sales for students looking for a simple but thoughtful gift for that special someone.
Presales for the flowers begin on Feb. 3 in room C123. Official sales start Feb. 13 and end Feb. 14, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Senior Abigail Neuenfeldt, the French club president is playing cupid this month as she gathers a crowd for the future sale dates. This past Thursday, a meeting was held in C123 to discuss the details and decorate the posters for the upcoming sale.

“I am the president of the French club and have been for the past two years,” Neuenfeldt said. “The club’s purpose is to engage in French culture and celebrate French traditions. It has been at Marshall since I’ve been here and has grown since.”
Because of the club’s growth, those participating are in need of funds in order to continue their endeavors into French culture. Once a year around Valentine’s Day, the French club purchases a mass of carnations to sell to students before school, during lunch and after school.
“The goal of this fundraiser is to celebrate Valentine’s Day and get involved with other Marshall students who are not in the French Club,” Neuenfeldt said. “The money will be used for funding French Club activities and buying new supplies for the club.”
Neuenfeldt discusses the precedent of success set by previous years and the impact of the carnation sales on the students.
“Most years we sell out, which is the sale of about 800 flowers,” Neuenfeldt said. “It’s great! It’s really nice to see people carry the carnations around campus and give them to their loved ones.”
