The Evening with the Stars is an event hosted annually by the theater department. The students practice acting the scenes they plan to perform at the Texas Thespians state festival. This is the second year this event will take place. 

“We’ll have a team of servers that are going to wait on the tables, and they’ll deliver desserts to everybody and coffee and water or that sort of thing,” Theater teacher Leona Deleon said.  

This event will take place in the black box where the students will be serving the attendants. 

“It’s really intimate, and it’s a special experience for the people,” Deleon said. “We really try to make it a unique experience for the people who are coming to see it,”

Evening with the Stars acts as a key fundraising event for the Texas Thespians competition that will take place in November in Corpus Christi.

“Texas Thespians has about 13,000 theater students that are going to be competing in November,” Deleon said.

Texas Thespians won’t all be in Corpus Christi. There will also be an event in Grapevine, Texas. But Evening with the Stars is where the attendees get to see what they have planned for November. 

“They’ll be competing for in-Texas events for top honors and bragging rights in Texas, but there are select events where they can qualify to go to international competitions. We’ve had pretty great success in the past,” Deleon said.   

Thespians is the main group that participates in performing. However, there are options for newcomers, such as being a server. 

“Thespians is like NHS, it’s an honor society for theater,”Deleon said. 

 “They can go, and travel, but it’s like we’re still kind of new and we’re kind of developing protocols for this year. I haven’t turned anyone down at this point.” 

Although this event is for fundraising, it is also a way for the students to practice their acting skills. One of the gems from the theater department, senior Roman Rodiguez, will be the host.

“What made me want to participate is just the love of acting and giving the audience a performance that they can truly connect with,” Rodriguez said. “I will be hosting Evening with the Stars as well as performing in one number called ‘Be our Guest’ from Beauty and the Beast; I will be playing the role of Lumier.”

This is truly an amazing event to show support for the theater department with such a great crew participating and showing their dedication.

“I am really excited to work with all these wonderful actors and crew,” Rodriguez said. “I believe in creating a team effort and I know that our crew and actors have the drive and passion to put on a spectacular performance.”
