Student Council made new changes to the annual homecoming traditions this school year. From the effort that was put into getting approval for updated dress up days, mums that are getting bigger and decorating your jeans to your class number, Student Council continues to keep old heritage up to date.

One of those traditions is Fall Fest. Fall Fest is an annual event that contains activities for the students to have fun.

“I’m excited for Fall Fest this year, because hopefully we’re going to do things a little bit differently, just to make it a little bigger and more announced,” President of Student Council Shaila Moreno said. “Hopefully this year we can have more people and more organizations who want to sell their things too, so like a pre-spring fling.”

Students get to vote and nominate their favorite teachers as Emperor and Empress which is another new change this year.

“We just thought that it would be a really good way to involve not only our students, but also teachers and staff.” Moreno said. “That way we can just have everyone on campus be a part of the fun of homecoming.”

Student Council is known for the ideas that are shared within every person.

Because of the communication skills that members have, they not only benefit the school, but they benefit from each other and make new friendships.

“So my freshman year is when I first heard about Student Council and it was during the prep days. I was new to the entire school because I was zoned for O’Connor, so I didn’t know anybody here.” Moreno said. “So I came and I was like okay, I guess I could join this so I can try to meet new people.”

As Student Council president, Moreno shares her experiences and has nothing but positive things to say.

“I enjoyed it. It’s fun, and then it’s a nice thing to do after school just to be involved and to get my mind off of homework and other things,” Moreno said.
