As Spring Fling approaches, ticket pre-sales are on May 13 and 14 during all three lunches. No tickets will be sold the day of Spring Fling and cash is not accepted.

Spring Fling is planned to be on a half day, May 15. Administrators chose the pre-order tactic and half day to avoid security issues, crowd issues, and students missing class.

“I think we were a little overwhelmed selling tickets during the event itself which kind of worked out,” Principal Richard Halle said.  “We brought in some more people, but initially, it was a huge rush in there. So, making sure that we can maximize sales was some of the issues that I think we saw there.” 

Spring Fling has been around for about 44 years, each being held during lunch periods.

“Since this is the biggest fundraiser of the year for some of our campus orgs, we took it really seriously,” teacher Hailey Hunt said. “French Club’s Italian soda sales were something I took pride in as a member my junior year and as president my senior year.”

The main reason for Spring Fling is that it provides fundraising opportunities for many organizations and brings school spirit.

“I believe that the constant changes to this tradition affects our school spirit, as Spring Fling is a uniqueness to our school, and it showcases how culturally diverse our school community is,” junior Johanna Avila Cortes said.

To have less of a crowd in the courtyard, a pre-sale will happen so students won’t have to wait half of lunch buying tickets.

“I think the change that will be the hardest to navigate is pre-selling the tickets,” Student Council President Emma Sanchez said. “If a student wasn’t at school those days or they couldn’t get a hold of tickets or are unsure each item would cost per ticket, they can’t estimate how many they want to buy. This may lead them to have leftover tickets or not enough tickets.” 

As a way for students to not be able to buy replicas of tickets, Student Council will have customized tickets, causing them to prepare for Spring Fling sooner.

“We’re going to have to prepare more in advance to make tickets that cannot be replicated, and that’s a lot of tickets to make,” Sanchez said. “If there’s about 2,700-3,000 kids in our school and each kid is bound to buy maybe 20 tickets max. That will be several thousand tickets to make in advance.”

Despite the changes, those involved still believe that this year’s Spring Fling will be just as fun as the years prior.

“We were sticky, we were tired, we were excited, and we were proud of our organizations,” Hunt said. “Spring Fling always felt like a day where we were allowed to let loose after EOCs, since most testing was over. It felt like a celebration of the year. I had a lot of fun at Spring Fling as a kid.”
