Interviewee: Amanda Pyle, Theater Arts Teacher

Q:What are you looking forward to in this play?

A:Mrs. Pyle is looking forward to our audience’s reaction after the rest of the semesters hard work. She wants the audience to be mystified, awed, and smiling with laughter and joy by the end of the play. She wants to see the fruit of her students efforts come into bloom after their dedicated work to becoming the best actors they can be and make the play an unforgettable one.

Q:Why did you chose this play?

A:Mrs. Pyle has very fond memories of this play because it was originally a book that she loved very much. She wants to share that love and joy she felt with both her students and the audience. She saw that it came out into a play and decided right there and then that Leaving Iowa was the play for her students.

Q:Why do you think your students are fit for this kind of play?

A:It means emotionally both a lot to her and her students. Not only that but it’s about a teenage boy that’s close to their age. She feels it will help better connect her students with the characters in the play since they can relate better due to their age.

Q:What kind of a play (genre) is Leaving Iowa?

A:Leaving Iowa is a comedy made to make the audience burst out laughing and make them chat about it after it’s done with smiling and fond memories that they can look back on.

Q:What is the theme of Leaving Iowa?

A:The theme of Leaving Iowa is the importance of family. Family is important and this play represents that even though a family might not be perfect and they cause each other headaches and problems, they still love each other and will work through them.

Q:Do you have any expectations for your student in this play, if so, what are they?

A:Mrs. Pyle fully believes in her students. She believes that they will do their best in this play. As an actor and as her student. She believes that they will take artistic risks that will ultimatley make both the play better and help them grow as an actor.
