It’s important to care of your mental health,  especially during these trying times. It’s also hard to keep a positive attitude when you’re staring at a computer screen all day, with no one around to endure the pain Schoology causes. What’s the deal with all the tabs? More organized my butt.

As teenagers, social interaction is vital. Being around friends and having fun was our way of getting a break from school, and all the stress that comes with it. Now that COVID has abruptly entered our lives, staying safe and quarantined in our homes away from social gatherings has made it hard to get any sort of human interaction. According to a survey by the American Civil Liberties of Southern California, more than half the students who responded to the survey said they’re in need of mental health support since the school closures began mid-March. Now that school is online, our lives revolve around technology, and that gives our brains no time to rest. Can the lack of human interaction and the constant use of our computers have a huge impact on our mental health?

In a study of about 1,500 teenagers, over 50% said they struggled with anxiety, 43% dealt with depression, and 45% said they felt more stress than usual. On top of that, too much technology could affect our memory, our attention, and what we focus on. What are we teens to do? Our schedule is basically: Wake up, log in to Schoology, and sleep. Well, instead of complaining about how tragically horrid 2020 has gone, why not make your day a little more exciting and give your brain a break from your computer screen with some fun activities? You could go outside and enjoy the nature that surrounds you. Maybe take your dog on a walk or go on a bike ride. You could try yoga or, my personal favorite, meditation (it doesn’t require you to think at all; you just have to sit there and relax). Now that the spooky season is among us, it would be very beneficial to go out and get a pumpkin to carve scary faces out of. Go ahead and buy that giant bag of fun sized candies to eat all by yourself.
