Mirrors line the field as the Clark Cougar Marching Band of the 2019-2020 school year rocks out to the songs “Heat of the Day,” “Fly to Paradise,” and “Mirrors.”
After the success of last year’s marching band show, “Reflections,” Band Director Justin Murphy decided that our band program needed a new look.
“I feel like we accomplished quite a bit with last year’s show,” Murphy said.
The show won many awards, including a UIL sweepstakes award, which is the highest award a band can receive at a UIL competition. The band also received second place in the preliminaries and third place in the finals at the Westlake Marching Competition last year.
“I felt with the successes that we had accomplished last year, we needed to rebrand the band with a new identity to go with the new attitude,” said Murphy.
The idea for the new logo arose when it was decided that the band trailer needed a new wrap.
The band trailer is where the bigger instruments, such as the drums, tubas, xylophones, and even pieces of the show props are stored when the band travels to games and competitions. Murphy began talking to
Ross Davis, a band parent who works in the business of designing this kind of artwork, about ideas for a new band logo.
“The more we talked, the more I felt like we needed a new edgy design to our cougar,” said Murphy.
Davis and Murphy began going back and forth with different versions of the new design. Each new version of the logo was an evolution of the previous version. Finally, the new logo came into the picture.
Murphy showed the final design to Dr. Woods for approval. Once approved, the new logo was then added to the new band merchandise, which was on sale from the beginning of August through September eighth. The logo is also featured on the new band trailer wrap, which features the new cougar and the words: Tom C. Clark Cougar Band along the sides.
The new band logo represents our Clark Cougar Band and all of their recent achievements in the past year. The logo will give our Cougar Band a new light as they have another fantastic marching season, no matter how different it is from normal.
“I’m excited about the new design, and I think it’ll look good on our trailer,” said Murphy. “I think the students will be excited about it once they see it.”
