2020 has been a crazy year, as we can all agree.

In March of this year, the whole COVID-19 pandemic started. Nobody ever would have guessed that nine months later, we are still having to be careful going out in public, and especially working.

I started working right before the lockdown started, and started to work again around August. It was completely different. We have to wear masks and gloves all the time, and are socially distancing from each other. We even stopped accepting cash from the guests so there would be less contact. Not everyone likes it, but we do it to help increase the guests’ safety, even if they don’t follow the rules sometimes.

It seems like some people will make up any excuse to take off their mask. I always hear guests taking off their mask and saying they can’t breathe or they can’t hear. We tell them to put their masks back on, but some people just never listen. We have machines so that guests can convert cash to a card, but sometimes they get upset that we no longer accept cash and will want to talk to a manger. The managers always end up telling them the same thing, which they don’t like at all.

I think it’s great that most places are open again, but if everyone simply followed the rules, we wouldn’t have to worry so much about guests’ complaints. We take as many precautions as possible, but until everyone follows the rules we’ll have to do this for a while. I love my job, and I’ll continue to work and take safety measures to make sure everyone is safe.
