Godzilla vs. Kong Movie Review

Over the course of the past year, many Godzilla and King Kong fans have been looking forward to the 2021 movie “Godzilla vs King Kong.” The build up of the movie consisted of the 2017 film “King Kong: Skull Island”, 2019’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” and many more teasers that were released between the issued dates. So, when the movie came out, my family and I immediately booked tickets to go see it in theaters.

In the beginning of the movie the pacing was incredibly quick, the first 30 minutes already introducing the audience to a kaiju fight in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Now, I’m not complaining, especially because that’s what the majority of the audience wanted to see when they bought tickets for the film, but I think the reasoning behind the fighting itself could have been explored and explained a little more. I did not fully grasp what the cause of the fight was.

Near the middle of the movie, when the audience were being introduced to the concept of Midworld, a lot of the plot points began to mesh together overlapping and becoming one. In my opinion, I feel like the concept of Midworld was only added to make the movie longer and to give the movie more than just large animals battling it out for territory.

At the end, when the monstrous Mechagodzilla appeared, it became insanely predictable. With the second half of the movie comes the second and final fight with Godzilla and Kong, and now introducing an overpowering villain, there’s going to be a team up between the two kaiju. The battles themselves were action-packed, and I really enjoyed them, but I wasn’t a super big fan of how I could walk into the theater and predict the major plot points of the movie.

With all that’s been said, I would rate the movie a solid seven out of ten. Personally, I ended up loving the movie, though there were parts that lacked, and thinking it was still a good film and had fulfilled its purpose as a motion picture. It was incredibly entertaining and fun to watch, but some key points could have been better explained to the audience.
