When I first heard about the release of Dayglow’s new album, I was ecstatic. His past albums really resonated with me and my experiences in relationships, the lyrics always hitting close to home. So, when the album People in Motion dropped on Oct. 7, I immediately rushed to Spotify.
The first song in the album, “Second Nature,” didn’t really speak to me, and I thought it sounded like all his other songs, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I just wasn’t blown away by his words for those five minutes and forty-seven seconds. However, the eighth song really stood out to me. Easily becoming my favorite song from the album, “Like She Does” caught my attention with its catchy beat and relatable lyrics. Even the title of the song captivated me before I even got the chance to click the play button.
On the opposite note, my least favorite song in the album is “Talking to Light.” From the beginning, I didn’t really connect to its vibe. It isn’t really “bad,” but I don’t relate to it in any way, therefore making it rather boring to listen to.
The album as a whole is super mellow and bright-sounding. I associate it with retro, bright colors and zigzag patterns, and enjoy listening to it while I study and do homework. And although I don’t think People in Motion is Dayglow’s best album, I definitely believe that it is super energizing to listen to.
As an avid Dayglow listener, I would recommend this album to individuals who enjoy upbeat, indie pop, or who just need mellow music to listen to while they relax.
