Unfinished Business: The lady Hawk soccer team was undefeated district champs last year in the 5A district. To prepare for 6A the girls soccer scrimmages Clark, Southwest, Regan, and Brandies. The first tournament they will be participating in this season is the San Marcos Tournament in San Marcos on January 7-9. The lady hawks first district game will be Tuesday, January 12 at 5 pm vs Brennan on A-Soccer field 2.
“Our team’s biggest struggle will probably be just getting used to the competitive environment that comes with being a 6A school, but we have an amazing team that is more than ready to rise to the occasion and be successful this season,” Captain Victoria Esquivel said.
Ready to compete: After not being able to go to playoffs last year due to COVID, THE NEST’s boys soccer team is preparing for the 6A district. They started of pre season by scrimmaging Boerne, Brandies, Clemens, Johnson, and Churchill. Boys soccer will be participating in the Alamo Heights Tournament as the first tournament of their season on January 7-9 at Alamo Heights High School. Their first district game will be Tuesday, January 12 at 7 pm vs Brennan on NISD field number 2.
“My goals for this season are to help my team in any way possible when I’m on the field. Things like not being selfish, making right choices, and making key plays are all things that can help myself and the team do well. I also hope to get a couple goals and assists this season while I’m at it,” junior Avery Richards said.
Making Hawk History: This year senior golfer Christian Martinez will be the first scholarship recipient from THE NEST. Martinez is a 4 year letterman and has accepted a scholarship offer to the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico. He will be signing a letter of intent on December 19 to play golf for them next year.
“In sophomore year, I didn’t think I would be able to play in college, then when I got my car I kept practicing everyday in my junior year, and now all that hard work is starting to pay off,” Martinez said.
