Waking up from a surgery, a dog cuddles up to the warmth of a girl. She strokes his head, giving him a sense of safety, an important step towards healing for the patient.
Volunteering at the animal protection organization, Spay Neuter Inject Protect of San Antonio for the last 3 years, sophomore Chloe Kiniry helps provide care for animals.
“I like to know I made a difference for the animals and their owners, as well as the vets,” said Kiniry.
Although Kiniry is allergic to cats and dogs, she joined the group after being introduced by it by the 4H vet science program she’s in.
“Before I found out that I am allergic to dogs and cats I wanted to be a vet, so I thought it would be a good experience for me,” said Kiniry.
Some of the things she does include comforting the animals post surgery, giving them water and watching surgeries.
“I want to be in medicine but I don’t think it would be the best idea if I become a veterinarian, not because it will harm them but because I don’t want to risk hurting the animals due to my allergies,” said Kiniry.
Despite having allergies, Chloe says that anyone could join as long as they act responsibly.
