inaccuracies stir up rebellion in fan’s heart

Being a fanatic of the Hunger Games series since it first appeared, I’ve devoted myself to see all the films created based on it. With Mockingjay Part 2 serving as the end of the trilogy, I was overall pleased with the movies representation of the books. With the books bringing readers into a world in which society holds a violent source of ‘entertainment’, through the sacrifice of two people from each district, the movie manages to do so as well. From the quality of the special effects used especially with in the chaos filled scenes, to how wonderfully portrayed Katniss is by Jennifer Lawrence, I really, really liked the films, and how they too allow its viewers to witness the hardships the people in this world face, mostly.

Although as a whole the film did a decent job, discrepancies between the movie and screenplay ruined certain scenes from the books I wanted to see played out on screen, my biggest being the book. In the actual ending of the novel, it is a rather depressing scene, with Katniss mentioning how her children are unaware of how they play on a graveyard, which is vastly different than how it’s done in the film. In the movie, Katniss is shown holding her young baby girl while Peeta plays with their son, with a warm ray of sunlight cascading over them in a field. Personally, I love happy endings but realistically no one is that happy after going through so much in such little time. The series is pretty depressing, so I think the integrity of this harsh reality would have resulted with a better ending. These complaints not withstanding, the movie is ever in my favor as a whole.
