HIPAA holdout ends, clinical returns to Methodist

Clinical rotation students are back in scrubs and back at Methodist Hospital five days a week making up for lost time due to required revisions to the agreement between the hospital and the district.

“I’m excited to be returning to Methodist because I like seeing all of the procedures and surgeries,” junior Christian Mendiondo said. “I’m excited to have this opportunity again.”

The process of revising the contract took about two months. Clinical instructor Jodie Sittre, whose classes were not able to go to Methodist Hospital, said she prepared her students by explaining that because the legal aspect of the contract is a process, it could be a while before the agreement was finalized.

While the agreement was in review, students continued their medical studies in the classroom.

“Though we can go to the hospital now, I’m fairly ecstatic that we were finishing most of the curriculum,” junior Ryan Cao said. “Now that the contract is approved on both ends, we’ll be able to enjoy the hospital experience without interruption.”

Due to missed time, clinical classes are visiting Methodist Hospital five days a week for the most part, unless there is testing or other campus required events. Usually, clinical students remain on campus on Fridays for coursework.

Clinical students are happy to be back in full swing and working in the hospital.

“I’m excited,” junior Michelle Lanaro said. “Because I enjoyed going there before and I was missing it. I’m really passionate about the medical field.”
