New Year’s is a unique holiday many people look forward to: New Year’s kisses, parties, and resolutions are things you might look forward to at the end of the year. But what about other countries? This is how people around the world celebrate the arrival of the new year.

In Spain, people eat 12 grapes on New Year’s. This represents each stroke of the clock, and brings good luck for each month of the year.

In Brazil, people wear colored underwear to bring in luck for the new year. For example, wearing red underwear is thought to bring in love in the new year.

In Greece, people hang onions on the door for good luck. On January 1st, they wake up their children by tapping them with the onion.

Lunar New Year is a holiday celebrated in some Asian countries. It is the beginning of the New Year based on the lunar calendar. People celebrate the new year with fireworks and decorate with the color red for good luck, for example, people give money in red envelopes.
