TRUMPER TANTRUM: Potential price toupee with Trump leading polls

Although it is only January, the 2016 Presidential election has been making headlines and appearing in social media for months. Of all the candidates on the campaign trail, republican candidate Donald Trump has become notorious for being outspoken.

“I think the big problem this country has is being politically correct,” said Trump in the first 2015 Republican presidential debate. “I’ve been challenged by so many people, and I don’t frankly have time for total political correctness. And to be honest with you, this country doesn’t have time either.”

A national poll by Quinnipiac University found that 23 percent of voting Americans would be proud to have Trump as president, and his lack of political correctness has seemed to leave a negative impression with a majority of students.

Trump has spoken out on numerous controversial issues including women’s health, immigration, and foreign affairs with what many would describe as an extreme lack of tact.

“Mr. Trump seems to have confused political correctness with decency and civility,” stated the Editorial Board of the Washington Post in a 2015 article on the candidate. “We need less of the former but more, much more, of the latter,”

Nevertheless, his lack of censorship has proved an effective strategy as he recently won the New Hampshire primary and currently leads the GOP with 31 percent of the republican vote.  However, some students do not concur.

“He may be funny, but we’re electing someone to run the country,” junior Iliana Lujan said, “and being entertaining or rich does not mean he’s qualified.”
