Cross Country prevails despite soggy trails

Rain and humidity did not slow down the Cross Country team during the meet on Sept. 29 in Sequin. In the Varsity Girls Division, freshman Isabella Malo placed 11th with sophomore Anna Swadick finishing 13th. In the JV Girls Division, sophomore Michelle Galvan placed 14th.

For Malo,  she said that coming in 11th place proved to her that commitment and determination pays off.

“I felt very proud,” Malo said. “I feel that I showed the hard work I’ve been putting in at practices to my coach.”

And Cross Country coach Ralph Turner does notice the runner’s dedication.

“I was very excited and happy for them,” Turner said. “They work hard everyday and they deserve it.”

Swadick had mixed feelings about how the meet went for her.

“I felt very excited because I dropped 2 minutes off my PR [personal record],” Swadick said. “But I was also a little bummed because it was  really humid so it was kinda hard to breathe.”

Galvan added that she gave it her all, “I feel that I tried my best and I’m proud.”

Turner is looking forward to watching his team grow.

“I’m excited for the future because they are all very young,” Turner said.
