The volleyball teams are a little over halfway done with their season, and they are staying competitive. The varsity record is 6-8, JV is 10-7, and freshman is 2-15.
Lori King, the freshman volleyball coach, proudly speaks about her team and the progress she has noticed as the season has started.
“They’re improving. They’re starting to finally recognize what it takes to become a better team and volleyball player. The practices are more focused, and they’re just doing a better job now all around. They’re starting to put the pieces together on what it is to play high school volleyball,” King said.
Speaking about her team, JV coach Shelby Burton, described how new things are being incorporated for the JV players as the season continues.
“I’m very happy about some of the things we are able to do this year. We’re about to start running a 6:2, and we have some pretty difficult serves that we’re incorporating. Overall it’s a higher skill level,” Burton said.
With a head coach change at the varsity level, the enforcement of conditioning made by new varsity coach Laura Suarez is a change for players.
“It’s an adjustment, but I think it’s good for them. They’ve definitely adjusted. They’re in pretty good shape as far as I’m concerned, despite their strength, but we’re working on it,” Burton said.

For Suarez, the new routines are being put in place to make the team better.
“We’re still working hard to get to where we want to be. They’re doing really good when it comes to conditioning. They do lots of running, sprints, core work, weight lifting, ladders and agility work,” Suarez said.
The varsity team takes on the Brandeis Broncos this Friday, October 14 at Brandeis High School.
