Over the past few weeks, students may have noticed a noise disturbance coming from the basement of the B building. This is due for the simple reason of the school replacing the 50 year old pipes under the building, a project that was started at the end of last school year, and has continued through the first few weeks into this new school year.
Students and staff can expect more of this work, with the remodeling the school will undertake through the next few years to come, including the B building’s internal modification and the soon-to-be 21st century fine arts building being built.
Anyone that has class in the ‘B building’ would have heard the noise coming from the basement during class, and might have not paid any attention to it. That noise is the pipes being cleaned and replaced, due to the fact that they are old and control the AC in the entire building.
This project started toward the end of last school year and worked throughout the summer to be ready for this school year, however they were slowed down because the school did not want them working on the pipes while the students were taking their mandatory state tests.
There has been no official complaints filed about the noise and most understand that work must be done to make our school more efficient.
As many huskies know by now, the A building will soon be gone and reinvented. This new building is needed to suffice a growing community and school. But when will this change take place? This project is scheduled to start at the conclusion of the school year, and in the buildings place, portables will come up, and will likely stay for “18 months to two years” according to Assistant Principal Vicente Arcos.
