One Act Play: Goodbye to the Clown
Xyaris Walker (7)
As the audience waits for the show to start, the stars prepare to set the stage. Understudies hide, just in case they are needed to provide help to any members of the cast. Ready or not, the show must go on.
Before the play, we had to set up the props, and stage. I tried to make sure that everything was in the right place, once the timer was almost out. I got into my place behind the curtain.
Once the play started, things were running smoothly, even though we didn’t have mics. During the middle of the play, the actors and actresses gave it their all. This was our UIL competition and we were performing it for an audience prior to the competition day. I was shocked by the person who played Peggy’s mother, who really brought out the emotion in her performance. I was her understudy, I knew what she was going to say and what was going to happen, but she portrayed the role so well, it sent a rollercoaster of emotions through me. A great scene was portrayed passionately on her end.
In the final scene, it was sad and despairful. I believe that a huge part of that was because the story itself was sad, but I also think that part of that was because it was our final performance of it.
It was a great play! I loved how the story was portrayed, and how relationships were created by the dialogue, and improv created by the actors and actresses.
The award show proved successful, Josiah Bridges won the award for Honorable Mention, Emilia Williamson won the All Star Award, and Madyson Austin, won the Tech Award. Overall, everyone did a great job and represented our school beautifully.
Thank Xyaris for the wonderful article! I was so excited to have you in our play and I hope you continue. Thank you so much for the attention to detail and elaborating on your experience.
