Moving Forward Quicker Towards the Future

Most students would let an injury prevent them from playing sports or living their life. Although this is the case for most students, this is not the case for James Garza. James reached out to the Journalism department and wanted to have an interview because in his words, “I’ve seen everyone else do it and I wanted to do it. I also wanted to share my progress since the accident I had.”
On January 7th, 2023, James dislocated his knee during 8th period athletics class while he was playing soccer as the goalkeeper. Even though that might not seem like a big injury, James had to go through a lot of treatment. “It made my daily life more challenging for the things I was used to. Now, I have to give my patience and time to rehab, and overall I can’t do the things I love to do the most anymore.”
Although it did slow down his everyday life, James did not let his injury defy him or his life. He worked hard to get back to where he was before his injury. Obviously, James is not the only person to ever recover from an injury, but his story can inspire many others. James wants others to know, “Just because you’re injured, it doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything you love. Try it out, if you can’t do it don’t feel discouraged. See it as a chance to take a break and relax. Don’t give up, embrace it.”
