Fiesta

Fiesta Time

Xyaris Walker (7)

You hear the roar of the crowd, as parades flow through the road. The sound of music makes you feel excited, the delicious food fills your heart with glee. As it ends, you can remember the happiness it brought to you.

Fiesta started in 1891 in honor of the heroes who died at the Alamo. This year, fiesta starts on April 20th, 2023 and runs through April 30th, 2023. So, for 10 days there will be festivals, Tex-Mex food, music, art, vendors, and much more.

Parades

The best part of fiesta are the parades. The parades are really colorful, and are mostly a main part to look forward to. One year, my dad and I went downtown so that we could see the parades floating by. Each and every one were unique. It’s awesome to see the students from other middle and high schools marching and performing during the parades with their bands and respective teams.

Just a few Fiesta medals collected.

Fiesta Medals

There are those that collect and show off Fiesta medals. Fiesta medals are great in design, and they get better each year. Some places sell Fiesta medals so you should check restaurants, companies, and even some schools to get your next medal! How many can you collect? Do you wear them on your shirt, a slash, or vest? Do you collect them year after year?

Festivals

There are so many creative things to do during the Fiesta season. There’s Fiesta Oyster Bake, Fiesta de los Reyes, which in translation is Feast of the Kings, then there is Fiesta de los Niños, which in translation means a children’s party. Then, there is Night in Old San Antonio, also known as NIOSA and the Ford Mariachi Festival just to name a few more.

Food

The most popular dish during every Fiesta season is “Chicken on a stick.” It only costs $8. From what I’ve heard, this chicken on a stick is really good and you can only get it during the Fiesta season. That’s not the only thing you can buy, another fan favorite are funnel cakes! You can get those with any topping you want like strawberries or chocolate!

As you can see, there are many things that you can enjoy during these next ten days. Viva Fiesta!
